Gel batteries

I must have missed the thread. I changed my original lead acid 
batteries over to the new BMW gel units on my 99 R this summer. I keep 
my bike outside all winter and ride when conditions are rideable. I use 
a Battery Tender Jr. to keep the the battery charged. Do I understand 
the BT Jr. is no good for gel batteries?
