Well, R bikes are weak, but...

Even a 98 crank hp R1100S
is more than quick enough for spirited riding with the
machine's
capabilities far surpassing that of most motorcyclists. Are
there
motorcycles with more power? Sure! Are there motorcycles
with more power
for the same engine displacement, or the same motorcycle
weight?
Absolutely! But these are entirely different matters than
labeling BMW
motorcycles as "underpowered" (e.g., BMW R1100S will not win
a race
against a Suzuki GSX-R1000, quarter mile on flat pavement,
because the
R1100S is underpowered for its weight). >>>

My first time in the N-GA mountains settled the issue for
me on why I love my BMW. Many of my Florida friend were
stunned to find who was in front and who was in back. At
times, they on their liter class bikes (one was a GSXR100),
were following me on my R1100R. When power was an issue, we
all know the story, but when power wasn't the issue, things
changed.
*I* was stunned to follow a BUEL in the real tight stuff,
but to be fair, that guy has been to a track many times. The
fellow on the Buel could not believe I could keep up with
him on my "heavy" BMW. His Buel BTW is a real surprise to
me... that bike can handle and brake REAL good. Even beat my
bike in a "drag race". The fellow on the Buel was convinced
it was the hard bags! Hehe. Some people are obsessed with
weight. I always point out how much weight the rider could
stand to loose!
The BMW and Buel have one thing in common that I don't
like, and that is the engine. Cool sounding, cool looking,
but, well, we went over all this already. Pushrods suck!
