Re: [smbc] Solvang Ride and Motorcycle Museum (fwd)

All,

Carl wrote that a single overnight trip might be more easily fit into other's schedules. That certainly is an option.

It would mean skipping breakfast in Santa Barbara and no ride along the spectacular West Camino Cielo Rd, which literally runs the crest of the mountains above Santa Barbara providing breathtaking vistas. I have to add that much of it is a dirt road so those of us riding non-adventure bikes would be taking it slow.

In any event, sure it could be a two day down and back without missing the prime directive, which is the motorcycle museum and a great ride.

This should be shared with the entire group, no?
All,

Some discussion of having an overnight ride down to Solvang to see the
museum, ride the coast or who knows, was brought up at breakfast on Sunday. Count me in as one of the instigators. Here is a link to the museum site and
one to the local visitors bureau:

There are many route possibilities. One would be Hwy 1 all the way down to
Lompac and then over to Solvang on the relatively swift 248 or the back road way on Santa Rosa Road. Another route to get down (or back) would be to take 25 (and its derivatives Peach Tree and Indian Valley Roads) all the way down to where it meets 101 in San Miguel and then 101 the rest of the way. About
300 one way miles no matter what way you go.

I can envision a ride down on a Friday, a Saturday breakfast in Santa
Barbara via Hwy 1 and back to Solvang and the museum via West Camino Cielo
Rd and the San Ynez peak. Then home on Sunday.

Maybe the weekend of November 12?
