Re: [smbc] Video - Laguna Seca on a 1996 Ducati

Dear G-Man,

Thanks for enjoying the movie. How was your popcorn? I have revised and improved the film a bit since first posting it on Tuesday. Got rid of my spelling errors, added a wee more commentary, some bumper sound and some stills (complete with aging effect) at the end.

As to those Lucas tail lights you mention; I freely admit I was rounding the circuit at a relatively pokey pace, yet an astute man of wit and wisdom such as you must surely have observed that no other machines from the rest of the beginners group were to be seen until I was lapping them ;-) It pays to listen to the instructors.

I'm just an old dog trying to learn a new trick and walking must be mastered first. One thing for sure, I'd love to have some of my Sunday K9 friends out there with me.

Dan

Well gollee!
That's quite a moompitcher show!
Were those a set of Lucas taillights that disappeared up in front?
Looks like a lot of fun.
October? Maybe.

Riders,

As a boy growing up in the Midwest, I used to dream about someday seeing the legendary Laguna Seca racecourse. It all seemed to be happening there in the seventies but it was a long way away for a kid from Missouri who could only afford an old Matchless twin during the dawn of the Super Bike era. Lucky for me I moved out to the Bay Area for college and never went back. Laguna Seca is now in my back yard and attending events there is easy. Last week I decided to go one better though and ride the track. So I signed up for the Reg Pridmore school at the last minute and hoped for good weather.

I have so often been mesmerized by video from a camera mounted on a bike, that I decided to take some of my own at the event. With a few widgets from the hardware store and the camera store, I made a steering stem mount for my Canon Digital Elph. Not the best solution but time was not on my side, so homemade was the way to go. For those who, like me, don't tire of such footage, I offer a link below to 6 minutes worth of the great time I had . It is 16 megs.

I also want to add a plug for Pridmore's school. As a student there I found the whole experience fantastic. Go as fast, or as slow as you want. The instructors will give you all the one-on-one you like, or let you be alone if you wish. The day alternates on the half hour between track and class time. Just observe a line that allows a passing lane to the outside and leave your ego at the door. Since the class is dedicated to transferring skills learned on the track to safer, more competent riding on the street, it is a great atmosphere and good place to learn for many types of rider.
