Re: [smbc] Re: SMBC Rider Wins Free Ducati 1098

Hi Jerry,

What it means is I get to go straight to the final round of just ten bikes from across the country.

My shot at the trip to Italy is now down to one in ten! The final will be held with all ten finalist bikes present at Laguna Seca on Ducati Island during the AMA Superbike races, the weekend of September 15. The field of ten is not yet complete as there are three more slots to fill. You can view the final ten bikes as they accumulate here:

This is the best possible result short of winning anything more. I just found out I get a Ducati leather jacket plus I'll be wined and dined by Ducati at the Monterey Plaza hotel that weekend and given the VIP treatment. I will be sure to make the best of their hospitality for I feel my good fortune may end there. The competition will be world class and I'm just a home garage wrencher with a bike that is not nearly as rare as some in Ducati's fabled history.

The other two bikes already in the same Original/Restored category as me for the final round (a 1974 750 SS - the famous "green frame" bikes and a 1983 750 TT1 - an over-the-counter racer of which maybe ten were made) are some truly spectacular or rare machines that can make grown men weep. And there will likely be one or two more such stellar machines to make the final in the that category. Its going to be great to see them in person.

I may not ultimately get a free trip to Milan but I know I have one thing going for me, I get to ride my old Ducati regularly with the SMBC.

Dan

Dan
So what the heck does that all mean?
How many votes were there? We did our part, didn't we guys?
Are you going to Atlanta with the bike?

Now Dan, whatever you do, don't get nervous, OK?

Not really but it could happen.

Riders, I find myself caught up in some serious fun and am compelled to solicit help.

I entered one of my motorcycle restorations in a Ducati sponsored contest and have been accepted into the competition. The serious part is that the winner could find themselves with a trip for two to Italy to attend the annual Milan International Motorcycle Show and a special tour of the Ducati facilities, all as a VIP guest of Ducati. Pretty fun stuff for a motorcycle geek. There is even a grand prize of a new Ducati 1098, but if you ask me the free trip is the better reward.

Though a panel of judges has the final say, there is a public voting component that is intended to have some sway on the machines chosen to advance. That is where your help comes to bear. Check out the link below and if you like my entry, give it a vote and maybe I'll be sending you all post cards from Milan and Bologna next year. I think my chances are slim yet the odds are exceedingly better than most such contests. Thanks for indulging me and wish me luck. Here is the link:
