RE: New Design?

Funny, I seem to remember JUST reading about the new R1200 oilhead
engine that is putting out 100 horsepower. Maybe this engine will make it's
way in to an RT model. If the oilhead engine were pushed far enough, I would
wager that it could put out similar horsepower to the DUC. It certainly has
the displacement. THEN we could look forward to having the longevity and
dependability of the DUC, along with the high service costs, or frequency of
servicing anyway.
Spline lube????? What's a spline lube? 36,000 and I have no stinkin
spline lube. Seriously, as stated in my previous post...I have had no
failures. That, of course, is not to say that I wont. I have seen posts
regarding the spline issue. What are the symptoms, what should I look for? I
have not had a problem in 36,000 miles. No leaks, seeps, drips, runs or
errors.
How many chains does a DUC go through in 36,000 miles...or 100,000
for that matter? I don't think I'll have to EVER change my driveshaft
because it stretched out and wore out the rear end.

the difference between the 916 engine and the 996 engine is, lets say, eye
poppin. this level of performance is not obtainable from a bmw r1100rt no
matter how you set it up. thats 115hp vs 90, and about 100# less in heft.
not to mention fully adjustable suspension out of the box. chain drive is
not a problem. these are not the chains of old, they are sealed and require
some minimal cleaning and applicaiton of a chain wax from time to time.
this red herring makes me chuckle each and every time it comes up. how many
of you do your rear spline lubing? how many shafties failed during the last
IB? come on, all machines have their ups and downs just be happy with what
you have.
