Still more on Beta bikes

Bob Silas asked: "My bike has no cat code(?), it would be helpful for
identifying the connectors if you'd be kind enough and let us know some
details about them, like how many wires and which side."

Answer: Karl Johnson took a good photo of the single white connector:

Bob Silas Asked: " Wouldn't our bikes need something (rheostat??) in the
tank to be able to show fuel quantity???? or, it's the same as for the red
warning light?? If I am not mistaken the red light comes on in two steps.
First time it comes up and goes away and second time it's remains red until
fill-up. Is this right or is it my imagination only???"

Answer: The fuel gauge in the RID operates off the same system as the red
low fuel light in the panel below the gauges. The RID always shows empty
(no bars) just before the red light comes on.

Bob Silas asks: " Would you know the serial numbers of those beta bikes
which had or had not the wiring as you described it?????"

Answer: No. Again, I'm not sure the building of the beta bikes was very
organized - it appears not.

John Van Deren asks: " When you installed your RID, was the pigtail in the
rear of the bike prewired? I have the front connector but don't have the
rear connection.
Do you know anything about this?

Answer: There is no "rear connector" for the RID - it is connected via a
single pigtail under the right fairing inner panel. Karl and my bikes both
have white harnesses for the RID.

> John Van Deren writes: "I've replaced the bottom end of my engine (an
engine running for a couple of minutes while the bike is horizontal will
burn up a big end bearing...I'm sure my WristRest contributed to that
expensive misadventure) and am planning on doing the top end this winter.
I will be sure to let whoever does the job know about the possibility of
larger valves. Thanks"

Gary wonders: Why run the engine when the bike is horizontal - there must
be a lot more to this explanation, right John???
