Pool related repairs

After weekly pool maintenance about a week ago the motor that drives the cover quit working. Well, the motor is fine, but the reduction gear set up that the motor drives now make lots of noise but zero movement. It took me a couple of hours to disconnect the motor and manually crank the cover closed. Today a new motor was installed.

Now that the motor is fixed the cover is torn. Specifically, the webbing that ties the cover to the ropes that are used to extend and retract the cover are beyond repair. The cover is six and a half years old. That’s about how long they last. A new cover is on order.

The dry rot is in a small section of pool house eaves. It’s been dug out and sprayed with something to stop it from spreading. It will be filled with epoxy then covered with a wood puty. The pool cover bench is badly warped. A new bench is being made, this one at a single height instead of the stepped design of the previous bench. Only the end by the cover motor will be hinged.

The new cover was installed today. The cover bench and dry rot repair are partially done. They will be completed in a couple of weeks. At that time some other household maintenace projects will be done, too.
