Door Repair
Saturday, Apr 24 2021
The front door has needed some work for quite a while. The bottom hinge flexes as the door opens and closes. The latch doesn’t latch unless the door is slosed quite hard, needing almost a slam. Lastly the weather stripping doesn’t keep the weather out. We don’t have the needed lumber to fix the hole in the ceiling, yet. Might as well get the door fixed.
The door was removed and trimmed such that the gap around the door is mostly equal. It was binding below the bottom hinge. Longer screws were used to mount the hinge to the wall. The door now opens and closes with ease.
Lastly, the old weather stripping was removed and new weather stripping was added with softer gasket material. It is able to push up agains the door without making the door impossible to close. Will have to wait for a windy day to know if it is really doing its job. I know it will be better than what was there.
