The sidewalk along a sectiion of our house has been in sad shape for a long time. Roots of two trees raised portions of the sidewalk up by almost 8 inches above the curb. Ten years ago the county added warning pylons along the curb. This year the county decided to do a proper fix. That came as a surprise to us – but we’re not complaining.

What next?
Two raised sections of the old sidewalk were removed. The roots that were causing the damage were cut back and removed, too. That was about a day’s work.

Concrete protection
The drain pipes that handle the overflow from the french drains that handle water from all the downspouts and the garden were plumbed, partially replaced with new plastic pipe. That got rid of the rusted section from the newer drains and the perforated section from the drains around our pool that existed when we bought the house. The joints were covered by concrete. My guess is that this was protection from being crushed during the pour for the sidewalk.

Today fresh concrete was poured and finished. The crew did a nice job. The curve where the curb matches our driveway is perfect. Now we’re waiting for concrete to harden.
