1974
This is my dad in 1974, shortly after trading in his R75/5 for the newer and more powerful R90/6. In later years he stated that the R90/6 might have been the best BMW he ever owned.
How’s this for nostalgia… a new BMW with accessories for under $4,000. Less than $2,500 with trade in. Fun fact: my dad did not keep this receipt. It came from the files of a friend who worked at selby motors back in the day. It got to me 30 years after the fact.
This is where it gets interesting. When my dad traded in the R90/6 for his next bike (the first of several R100RT) he turned in license and the signed ownership papers. They never made it to the DMV… the same friend had them in his files. Memory says that my dad put 109,000 miles on the bike in the eight years he owned it.
And here is the license that matches the pink slip, above.
